Starwood’s Better By The Night Promotion

What’s the deal???

From October 1 – December 20, 2012, Starwood Preferred Guest is offering double or triple Starpoints for stays as their 4th quarter promotion.

Registration just opened up so click here and register! You must register by November 30 to be eligible for this promotion.

Promotion Details

  • Double Starpoints for stays of 1-2 nights
  • Triple Starpoints for stays of 3 or more nights

  • 250 bonus Starpoints for eligible stays booked at
  • 500 bonus Starpoints for eligible stays booked at SPG app for iPhone (sorry Android users!)

Is it a good deal?

Yup. It’s a great way to pad your balance if you’re planning on a stay longer than two nights.

Normally, you receive 2 points per dollar at Starwood hotels.

With this promo, double points means 4 points per dollar. Triple points means 6 points per dollar.

Additionally, if you are a Gold or Platinum elite, you always get an extra 1 point per dollar spent.

Also, if you have the American Express SPG credit card, you always earn 2 points per dollar spent at Starwood hotels.

Other Notes

As always, there are some hotels that don’t participate.

Here is the link to the FAQ and terms & conditions.

It’s definitely not an out-of-this-world kind of promo, but I like it. It’s straight forward with no hidden tricks.

Last year, SPG had a similar triple points promotion that I took advantage of and it really bumped up my Starpoint balance. If I have a chance, I’ll be trying to stay at a Starwood hotel for at least a 3 night weekend this Fall.

I haven’t stayed at an SPG in almost a year (not a big hotel guy), and I got an SPG promo for 4000 points for any stay before October 31. So I guess I could get another 500 for booking via my iPhone, then double points on the stay. How much are 4500 points to make a Mattress Run worth it?

Oh wow that’s a nice promo to stack with this upcoming promo.

I don’t do much valuation of Starpoints, but I tend to redeem them at 2.5 cents per point or better so I guess that’s my “number.”

I still don’t know that I’d do a mattress run for it though, unless maybe you got a rate for well below $100.

I figured … the best rate I can find in my area is about $80, so not really worth it. Would rather have $80 in my pocket than 4500 SPG points.
