Hawaii 219: Four Seasons Maui at Wailea

Where else would a couple of newlyweds stay on Maui other than the Four Seasons Maui at Wailea? Again with the help of David Ourisman, our luxury travel agent, we were able to secure great rates for 5 nights at this grand property. Since David is a Four Seasons Preferred Partner (FSPP), he was able to secure us amenities like full daily breakfast at DUO Restaurant, a room upgrade, and an $85 lunch credit at Ferraro’s. This cost us nothing extra so there is nothing to lose by checking what properties David works with.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the valet with leis. Our luggage was taken and we were directed to the front desk within the beautiful open air lobby. The pleasant agent that was checking us in recognized that we were booked under an FSPP and explained the amenities to us. She also offered us a paid upgrade to a suite, but the price per night was almost equal to our nightly rate so we declined. She then lowered the price a bit more, but it was still way out of our price range. It was a little awkward to have her keep pressing with the upgrade offer while only lowering the price a little, but hey, whatever sells the more expensive rooms.

We were upgraded to an Ocean View Prime Room, which was one category higher than what we booked. The walk to our room was where we first realized how big the resort really was. From the elevators to our room took about 4-5 minutes, and we there were some rooms further than ours.

Upon entering, we passed the HUGE bathroom that had a separate shower and tub, L’Occitane amenities, dual vanities, and a separate toilet room. The main area featured a king bed, flat screen TV, couch, coffee table, and desk. At the end of the room were sliding glasses doors that led out to a decent sized lanai and an unobstructed view of the ocean (albeit very far away). The decor seemed a bit dated, not as regal as some Four Seasons I’ve seen, but everything was in great shape nonetheless.

Other amenities to note were shoe cleaning service and complimentary use of a Four Seasons beach bag. The former was key after the muddy day hikes we did. Our sneakers were returned the next morning looking as good as new. I seriously hadn’t seem them that clean since I bought them years ago. The latter was just handy for day trips and heading to the beach. It was the perfect sized beach bag and very high quality. We ended up buying a brand new one as a souvenir.
