I know some readers were wondering how long it takes for Chase to post bonus points earned through the Ultimate Rewards Mall. This is a potential downside to most e-shopping portals as the hassle of chasing down points/miles might not be worth it in the end.
This is why I made a test purchase at the UR Mall. Home Depot and Sears are 2 of the UR Mall affiliates that allow gift card purchases to be eligible for bonus points. Usually, that is not allowed so finding these gems can be lucrative.
As you can see, I made the Home Depot purchase on Sept. 5 and the credit posted on Sept. 7. The Sears purchase was Sept. 6 and posted on Sept. 9. Very fast by e-shopping mall standards. This should clear things up about the timing of points posting.
These points don’t show up in my actual UR account until the next statement close but by clicking here (when logged into your Chase account), you can see what purchases have been recorded properly.
Whenever gift card purchases are eligible for points bonuses, take note of them. You can always buy a bunch of gift cards for future use. This may be helpful if you’re trying to complete a spending goal for some bonus points/miles, and you might as well double dip while you’re at it.
For me, Home Depot gift cards are a ‘gimme’. Homedepot.com purchases are a 5x bonus through the Chase UR Mall, and I don’t know of any other e-shopping portal that allows gift card purchases to be eligible. I don’t know anyone who hasn’t needed to buy something (or a lot of things) at Home Depot so stocking up on gift cards for future spend could be a great idea.
Here is a list of Chase UR Mall partners that allow purchased gift cards to be eligible for points bonuses.
