From what I’ve noticed, it’s a very useful update. Prior to this update, the app was only great for checking out current reservations. It sometimes wouldn’t remember your login so you would have to log in every time you opened the app. Searching for, let alone booking, reservations (paid only) was a pain and easier done on an actual web browser.
The new version of the Hyatt app provides a complete redesign, focusing on application stability, ease of booking, and a visual refresh. In addition, some key new features have been added, including:
- Make hotel reservations using Hyatt Gold Passport® points
- Access exclusive rates for Hyatt Gold Passport® members
- Save Reservations and your Hyatt Gold Passport® details to Passbook
The redesign of the app makes it easy to search for hotel availability. It basically mirrors the search from the desktop/web version of Hyatt.com.
The most useful addition is the showing of the Gold Passport Award availability. Previously, this was only on the website, but now users can search for free award nights from their smartphone/tablet. This is really great for me as I’m almost always searching for award rates, not paid rates.
The updated app even shows “My Elite Rate,” which is a rate exlusive to Gold Passport elite (Platinum & Diamond) members.
Mobile apps are increasingly important to any brand and I’m glad Hyatt has improved theirs. Previously, it was borderline useless. My hope for the future is that Points + Cash becomes searchable on the website, as well as the mobile app.
