Chase Gets Stingy

Well it’s the First of November and I was all primed up, ready to prepare for early holiday shopping. I logged into the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall to find a terrible surprise. Chase brought the Sears bonus multiplier from 10x down to 6x per dollar spent! That sucks as I was in the market to purchase a brand new washer and dryer in the next month.

Also, Home Depot and Lowes are now completely ineligible for bonuses on purchases of gift cards! This definitely sucks because it’s impossible to find what you need from those 2 home hardware stores online. You almost always need to go into the actual store for the purchase.

All in all, this is a crap deal. I guess some people were really hammering the deals on this so I shouldn’t be surprised… just a bit disappointed.

Oh well, back to the drawing board for this year’s holiday shopping bonuses!

P.S. I have an idea for still getting our damn bonuses that I don’t really want to advertise but if you’d like to know, comment!

Yeah, that stinks, but was also probably inevitable. Rats. I agree the biggest loss is Home Depot and Lowe’s gift cards.

In a related note, I find it a bit unsettling that AMEX did not offer its bonus multiplier on the first day of the iPhone 4s sales, but did offer it from the second day forward. Cheap.

I’d like to here your idea regarding getting the bonuses.

I was going to load up on Sears gift cards as well. Back to th drawing board to see where I can get the most bang for my buck.

Please let me in on your thinking on how we can still get the bonus.

It’s not a big secret, but it will take work. Also, for now, this is just for Home Depot. I plan on purchasing an item online through the UR portal for the 5x bonus, and then returning it in store for store credit. Voila… you effectively get your ‘gift card’ and still get the bonus points on Chase. I plan on trying this with Lowes as well.

    The HD return policy states:

“Bring the Item(s) with a copy of your bar-coded shipping confirmation e-mail to your local Home Depot store for credit to your original tender or a The Home Depot store credit.”
