Big time AmEx bonus! 10,000 MR points per authorized user

I think they got tired of all the buzz coming from Chase’s latest offerings. According to FlyerTalk, American Express is running a promotion in which Platinum & Gold card holders can earn up to 10,000 Membership Rewards points per additional card holder, or authorized user.

What you need to do/know:

  • Membership Rewards phone number: 1-800-AXP-EARN (297-3276)
  • Bonus ID: 5721
    • T&C: Authorized user must be added between Jan 1, 2011 and Dec 31, 2011
  • Name & Date of Birth of each authorized user
    • The customer service representative (CSR) will ask for their Social Security number but you can say you don’t have it right now and the CSR will process the application anyway. You may or may not have to provide the SS# at a later date, but I imagine not.
  • For additional Platinum cards, you can add up to 3 users for a $175 annual fee (worth it, trust me)
  • For PR Gold & regular Gold cards, you can add up to 5 users for FREE (this is a no brainer)
  • Authorized user must spend $1 as a requirement for this promo

As always, if the CSR is not being helpful or tells you that you are not eligible for the promotion, feel free to thank them, hang up, and call back, hoping for a more cooperative agent. My Platinum services agent was very helpful and processed Dad, Mom, and Joann as authorized users in about 5 minutes with just names, birthdays, and an address (all one residence). He stated that after 6-8 weeks of spending requirement ($1), the points should automatically post. If they do not, he made sure to notate my account so I would have no problems calling in to receive the points. I have gone through this process in the past and AmEx is very helpful when it comes to crediting fulfilled promotions.

Simple as that. I expect 30,000 MR points in about 2-3 months. Act fast because if too many people try to get in on this, you never know what AmEx might do. Also, if you have ANY AmEx card that earns MR points, it is worth a call (or 5) to see if you are eligible. And always always always remember that if you get denied the first time, you might get lucky a subsequent time. Keep trying!
